In the latest corporate strategy meeting, Sony’s CEO, Kenichiro Yoshida, said that the PlayStation 5 will be 100 times faster than the PS4 at processing game data. For the complete statement, you can refer here. This is something that we have been expecting since the reveal of PlayStation 5 Specs by Mark Cerry in a live stream. At this point, PlayStation 5 is considered a good gaming PC with the use of eight Zen-2 processing cores that are capable of over 10 teraflops graphical assimilation, and 16GB of GDDR6 RAM. On top of this, PS5 will take advantage of Solid State Drive technology. The one that will be used on the console is a custom 825GB SSD that’s designed and manufactured to work flawlessly with the console.
By using SSD instead of the traditional disc drive, this will drastically improve load times including depth of field while in-game. The SSD that will be used for PS5 is said to be capable of 5GB per second data transfer rate which is drastically faster than your standard SSD for PC.
How much will the PS5 cost?
There hasn’t been any price confirmation yet from Sony and rumors have it that the company is struggling to keep the retail price low. One factor that affects the company to keep the price low is the scarcity of components. Right now, we are estimating that the PlayStation 5 will retail between US$450 to $600.
Furthemore, Sony seems to be waiting for Microsoft before it makes any more reveal on its own PS5. This includes pricing, availability, and exclusive perks.
When will PS5 be available?
If there’s one thing confirmed about the upcoming PS5, that would be the release date. According to Sony, the PS5 is set to be available for purchase this coming holiday 2020.
