Nintendo is finally adding a new title to their long-running Mario RPG game series, Paper Mario. The Paper Mario: The Origami King is the 6th installment to the series and will be available on July 17th of 2020.
The Paper Mario series debuted its first installment way back during the golden age of Nintendo 64 and it was one of the most anticipated RPG games for the Mario franchise.
Update: Nintendo just released a 5 minute in depth gameplay video of the upcoming Paper Mario: The Origami King.
Paper Mario’s other notable addition comes in the form of a new 360-degree battle system.
Paper Mario: The Origami King is a series that sets itself apart from the rest of the Mario games. The game focuses on Mario and Olivia as they try to free Princess Peach’s castle from the clutches of King Olly.
Paper Mario: The Origami King is a game filled with puns, comedy, spin-offs, charming arts, and more. The game can now be pre-ordered for US$59.99.
The Paper Mario: The Origami King is said to be the biggest and longest game of the series with a whopping 6.5 GB storage size requirement. As a comparison, the game The Legend of Zelda™: Breath of the Wild requires 13.5 GB of storage size.
Finally, there are no confirmations yet if there will be a DLC for this game. If ever there will be, having different playable characters and a new side storyline would be great as a DLC for this game.
Game Key Features
Similar to the game mechanics of the previous Paper Mario titles, the Origami King lets the player play a paper version of Mario in a 3D world. You can then fuse other paper and create three-dimensional objects that can help you along the way. This also includes, as the title suggests, origami sculptures.
The Origami King focuses on letting the player enjoy the key concept of the Mario game along with solving various puzzles based on the paper-world concept. As the player progresses, Mario will gain various partners over the course of his journey.
One unique aspect added to the Paper Mario: The Origami King is the use of a ring-based combat system. This basically lets the player empower Mario to defeat enemies faster by lining up enemies that sit on sections of these rings and then striking them within the same arc across all rings. It’s a puzzle-solving system that’s incorporated within the combat system of the game.
