The remake of the thrilling cel-shading first-person shooter game, XIII, is set to be released on November 10. The action title was initially due for release on 13th November 2019 but was later on postponed by the developer PlayMagic. According to François Coulon, Head of Production at publisher Microïds, “additional development time is needed to reach the level of polish we’re aiming for.”
The stated release date of the remake was posted by Amazon Spain with their upcoming retail of the game’s limited edition physical copy. The remake will make its way to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. No words yet if the game will be ported to the next-gen console.
As a game, XIII is a first-person shooter with elements of stealth and action in certain missions. It was first released in November 2003 for PC, PlayStation 2, and GameCube. The game later found its way to other platforms such as Xbox and Mac which was handled by Southend Interactive and Zonic, respectively.
The game takes place within the same arrangement as the first five volumes of the 1984 Belgian graphic novel series XIII. While the plot itself borrows major elements from all five volumes to create singular narrative – the attempt to uncover the identities of a group of conspirators seeking to overthrow the US government, and the involvement of a man with no memory to achieve this – the adaptation of the comics features notable differences and situations in various places.
We are not certain yet if the listed released date on the Amazon site is the official launch date of the game. According to the site, the game is “Este producto saldrá a la venta el 10 de noviembre de 2020.” which directly translates to “This product will go on sale on November 10, 2020.” However, there has not been any confirmation yet from the developers. Furthermore, we are also not certain if the remake version of the game will be title XIII Limited Edition. On Steam, the game is called XII – Remake.
The remake was developed by PlayMagic and it will include single-player campaign as well as multiplayer. Additionally, the physical copy of the XIII Limited Edition will include a double-sided collector’s metal case, a unique collector’s case, 3x lithographs, the original soundtrack of the game in digital format, and the “XIII Golden Weapons” skin pack.
A new trailer for XIII will debut during the IGN Summer of Gaming 2020 live stream later today, which begins at 11:30 a.m. PT / 2:30 p.m. ET.
